Greetings and Welcome to the Radiomuseum-Bocket

A Visit to the Radiomuseum!

Many visitors know our web pages as well as the Radiomuseum Bocket personally. For the ones that are not yet acquainted with it, here is a brief introduction. I started collecting radios in the 90ties, to be more accurate in the years 1992-94. The actual opening of the museum happened a few years later so that this year - 2007 - we celebrate the museum's 10th anniversary. So, ours is a real museum, not just 'Online'.

How did the museum get started.

It all started in 1992. One of my sons was a bass player in a local band. His guitar amplifier was a Grundig radio that had been modified to do the job. As time passed the modified radio 'did not cut it anymore'. A real amplifier was bought and the radio/amplifier came to rest at my house. After a while I returned the radio to its original condition. This gave me so much fun and satisfaction that I started to collect and repair old radios. This was the beginning of a great hobby. Initially I collected anything I could lay my hands on and dragged home whatever was affordable. Money did play a significant role in this hobby. In time so many sets had gathered that I did not know anymore what is what, all available spaces had been occupied. When I started to sort all of my collection I found out that most of the sets were of the Loewe Opta brand. I also remembered that in the city of my birth - Düsseldorf - there had been a manufacturing plant by Loewe Opta, and we had lived not to far from there. So, I resolved to concentrate on collecting Loewe Opta sets. By 1997 the collection had grown to 150 radios and I decided then to open a museum. This was the founding hour of the Private Loewe Opta Radiomuseum. As mentioned earlier, this year we are celebrating the 10th year of operation. Today, in 2007, the assortment of 150 sets has grown to more than 350. I believe that what we have here is unique. So, what is there to see? All types of gear are represented, radios, music cases, tape recorders, portable radios and much more. The collection spans the years from 1927 to about 1980 so there are many interesting items to admire. Many of the pieces have interesting sounding names such as Apollo, Atlas, Bella, Luna, Meteor, Hellas or then specifically the sets from Düsseldorf with Rheinperle, Rheinland, Rheingold, Rheinnixe, or Rheinprinz. There are portables with names such as Lissy, Dolly and Lord - there truly is much to see and more.

Now, are you curious? If yes, why not come by and have a look, be it personally, in one of my TV-Offerings, or in the following Webpages.
